Inside the baths
|
This is the calidarium, the first room inside the public baths in Pompeii. You can see the cubby holes where they put their clothes & shoes, etc, and the murals on the walls. The baths had four rooms. The calidarium where the hottest water was, also had a sauna. The trepidarium was the next room where the warm water was and the frigidarium was the last place they bathed to cool the body & refresh it. Finally, there was a massage room where slaves would massage the body with olive oil and then scrape it off.
